Man given suspended prison sentence for possessing a knife in Milton Keynes

A 43-year-old man has been given a suspended jail sentence after he was caught holding a kitchen knife in a public place.

Joseph Rutter from Giffard Park was charged with carrying a silver-handled kitchen knife , without good reason or lawful authority, in Hainault Avenue on his estate.

He pleaded guilty at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court and was given a 16 week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

The court ordered him to have mental health treatment under the direction of probation for 12 sessions.

Mr Rutter was also ordered to pay a £128 to victim services plus costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The knife will be forfeited and destroyed.
