A city private hire driver had been fined in court for driving and unlicensed vehicle with no insurance.

Kashif Iftikhar Butt pleaded guilty at MK Magistrates Court following an investigation by action by Milton Keynes Taxi Enforcement.

He was spotted with an illegal tyre outside MK Central station by the enforcement officers in May last year andthe licence on his cab was suspended.

But he continued to work in it, wthout replacing the tyre, and was once again caught, the court heard.

Butt, who lives in Towcester, was fined £760. This included a £160 victim surcharge and he also received six DVLA penalty points.

Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, Cllr Mick Legg said: “Taxi drivers are in a position of trust to transport passengers safely to their destination. Unsafe vehicles put passengers and other road users at risk.

“Customer safety is our number one priority and we will act against any private hire drivers who fail to maintain their vehicles to a safe standard.”
