So, despite Costco being open as a essential store, there was no reason for the pair to travel that far for essentials that could be bought locally.

A spokesperson for Coventry City Centre Police said: "Motorist stopped in the city centre having driven to Coventry from Milton Keynes to shop at Costco for water and washing detergent.

"Non essential journey and passenger not from his household. Both issued fines of £200."

The latest figures from the National Police Chiefs Council showed nearly 1,000 Thames Valley residents had been fined for Coronavirus-related breaches.
