According to TVP, the victim evacuated the house into the garden while neighbours assisted in attempting to put out the fire before the fire service arrived on scene.

The offender is described by police as white, around 5ft 5ins, of average build, with short light brown messy hair and he was wearing a face mask. He was also wearing blue tracksuit bottoms with white stripes down the leg and a white jumper.

Investigating officer detective inspector Jason Simpson said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim and their family who were fortunately uninjured.

“I would like to speak to anyone who may have details about this incident. I am particularly keen to speak to a member of the public who was with his children at the time and assisted with putting out the fire. It is believed he was wearing a green/black jacket.
