Yesterday (February 8) MK Trading Standards warned residents to be careful of fake text messages enticing victims to believe they're receiving a Covid related grant.
The text contains a link to a phishing site designed to steal money from the unsuspecting. Victims are led to believe that by clicking the link they can claim a UK government-funded grant for £277.59.

The deadline to claim for the third Self-Employment Income Support Scheme was January 29 with information on the next grant set to be announced March 3.
Information on whether you are eligible for government support during the pandemic can be found here.
A spokesperson for Trading Standards MK released the following statement: "We are urging MK residents to be vigilant. This text is a scam. The link takes you to a website that looks official but it is a scam designed to separate you from your money. Please delete it. Visit .gov.uk for details of legitimate grants."
