Minute's silence held Milton Keynes for police officer who was shot dead

Police in MK held a minute's silence this morning in memory of their colleague who was fatally shot.

Sergeant Matiu Ratana died in hospital on Friday after being shot as a handcuffed suspect was being taken into custody.

The incident happened in Croydon and the suspect is reported to have turned the gun on himself after shooting the father-of-one.

He remains in critical condition in hospital and police have been unable to interview him. But they have, over the weekend, arrested a man in Norwich on suspicion of supplying a firearm.

MK Custody Team today published a photo of them observing the minute's silence today in memory of Sergeant Ratana, who was a member of the Metropolitan police.

An MK police spokesman said: "It is a dark day when we lose one of our family. Many of us have been hit hard by these incredibly sad circumstances. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all our colleagues."
