His next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A Section 60 order has been put in place in Milton Keynes following the incident, which is due to expire at 5pm tomorrow (Wednesday).

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Andy Howard, of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation and we are working to establish the exact circumstances of what has taken place. As such, it is very important that anyone with any information at all which could relate to this offence gets in touch as soon as possible.

“If you saw any kind of disturbance in the Netherfield area at about 11.30pm last night, or if you have any other information which you think could help us, I would urge you to get in touch.

“I know that this news is likely to cause concern in the community, but I would like to reassure everyone that a full and thorough investigation is underway.

“People are likely to see a large police presence in the area over the next few days as we carry out our investigation, and a scene watch is in place at the location where this incident occurred.

“This Section 60 order will temporarily give our officers more powers to carry out stop and search checks while we investigate the incident.

“It is designed not only to protect the public but also to prevent the escalation of any further violence.

“If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to speak to our officers.

“If you have any information to share with us, please call 101, quoting reference number 2376 of 28/3.

“Alternatively, you can make a report online, or contact the independent charity, Crimestoppers, 100 per cent anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or via its website.”

The area covered by the Section 60 notice is bounded by H3 Monks Way/Calverton Lane, V10 Brickhill Street, the A4146, Stoke Road/Whaddon Road and North Buckinghamshire Way.

The stop and search order is the latest in a series of Section 60s to be issued in Milton Keynes this year, following the sad spate of stabbings, which started with the death of 28-year-old Nagiib Maxamed on Decembe2 27.

In January a 44-year-old man died after a stabbing on the Lakes Estate and last month a 16-year-old boy lost his life in Leadenhall, near Milton Keynes College.

Police have arrested people in the other three murder investigations.
