A "sadistic creep" has shot a pet cat and caused it to die of its injuries in Newport Pagnell.

Black and white Miguel was so badly injured that he had to be put to sleep by a vet, say his devastated owners.

The incident happened in the Queens Avenue area of the town on Wednesday evening last week.

Police are investigating and residents are checking their CCTV to see if they can find the killer. Meanwhile many worried cat owners are keeping their pets inside.

Miguel's owner posted last Thursday: "It is with great sadness that I write this post but want to warn other cat owners. Our gentle, funny, sociable cat, Miguel was shot last night and had to be put to sleep this morning."

She added: "This happened in the Queens Avenue area. It's been reported to the police...Whoever has done this will no doubt carry on as if nothing has happened but hopefully will read this and think twice before acting in such a cowardly, despicable way."

Recently the owner added: "I just would like to say a big thank you to all the comments and time people have spent checking CCTV etc. It's been a great comfort to us, Newport is full of compassionate and considerate people. Many thanks."

Her partner posted: "If anyone knows any information come forward as soon as possible. What twisted kind of person shoots a cat for sport? There is a sadistic creep in the neighbourhood who needs to be brought forward. Please get in touch if anyone has any information.£

Another resident said: "I'm so upset and angry to know that there is such an evil person living in Newport Pagnell. I like to think of our beautiful town as a kind place. I hope who ever you are can see what heartbreak you have caused and live with that guilt for the rest of your life."

She added: "I’m sure the power of Newport Pagnell will come together and you will be found."

Anybody with any information about the incident should call police on 101.
