Police investigate almost 100 cases of people breaking Covid rules in Milton Keynes over the weekend

Police have revealed that 97 reports of non-compliance with Covid regulations are being investigated today (11th January).

It is understood some of the reports involve alleged illegal gatherings of people in homes or public spaces.

Police officers have the power to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice of £200 to anyone breaking the rules for the first time.

But this can double for further offences, up to a a maximum of £6,400.

The government website says: ‘You must not leave or be outside of your home except where you have a “reasonable excuse”. This will be put in law.

‘The police can take action against you if you leave home without a “reasonable excuse”, and issue you with a fine.'

The Covid investigations come on top of a busy weekend for police, who also received reports of 14 domestic incidents and one rape over the weekend,

No residential burglaries or robberies occurred, but there has been one allegation of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
