Police sweep areas of Milton Keynes for hidden knives

Officers spent Sunday using search poles to scour alleys, undergrowth and anti-social behaviour hotspots on Fishermead.

The exercise was "intelligence-led", they say.

And officers came up trumps by finding a large kitchen knife that had been hidden. It has now been safely disposed of.

A police spokesman said: "This is the reasons why we undertake this task regularly. The knife will be disposed of and intelligence will be submitted."

He urged people not to be alarmed if they see officers with the search polices in their area.

"Theses sweeps are not out of the ordinary and it's something that MK Neighbourhood Teams do on a regular basis," he said.

Anybody wanting to dispose of knifes can take to to a special bin at Milton Keynes police station.

Meanwhile officers from the Major Crime Unit are busty investigating the latest murder, which happened in Two Mile Ash on Saturday morning.

The victim, a 49-year-old man, was found at a property in Clay Hill with serious a serious stab wound to his neck. He died at the scene, despite paramedics battling to save him.

The man has not yet been identified, but his next of kin have been informed and the family is being supported by specially trained officers

Two people, a 24-year-old man from Nuneaton and a 49-year-old woman from Milton Keynes were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

A further warrant to detain them both has been granted while investigations continue today.
