Investigating officer Detective Inspector Jason Simpson said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation, and although the victim has suffered a knife wound, at this at this time, the death is being treated as unexplained, as a post-mortem has not yet taken place."

He added: “We are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident and we have a scene-watch in place at the property.

Meanwhile, although police believe this to be an one-off incident, they have organised an increased police presence on the estate.

DI Simpson said: "I appreciate the concern an incident such as this will cause in the local community, but at this early stage we are treating this as an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the general public.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area while our investigations continue, and I would urge anybody who has any concerns or who has information about this incident to please speak to one of our officers, or call the 24-hour non-emergency number 101, quoting URN 450 (29/2).”
