A 75-year-old woman has been arrested and bailed in connection with the unexplained death of an 80-year-old man on Friday.

Thames Valley Police are investigating the incident which saw officers visit a house in Bancroft Park at 6.30am where they found the man dead.

A post mortem has revealed the man died as a result of strangulation but formal identification has not yet taken place.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector, Vince Grey, said: “We are now consulting with the Crown Prosecution Service as to how this case should be carried forward.

“Our focus is to establish the exact circumstances around the death to best understand what and how it happened. The post mortem result forms part of that investigation.”

Local Policing Area Commander, Detective Superintendent Barry Halliday said: “I would like to reassure local residents that we hope to keep disruption to a minimum while carrying out the necessary investigations.

“My neighbourhood policing team will be in the area on patrol to provide reassurance to residents and I would encourage anyone with concerns or questions to approach them.”

The 75-year-old woman has been bailed until August 2 pending further police enquiries.
