Daughter and dad in charity rally attempt

A Shenley Lodge woman will be driving 2,000 miles across Europe with her dad, when they tackle the Modbally Rally in June.

Lauren Green, aged 20, and her father Richard, aged 37, are undertaking this challenge in memory of Richard’s first daughter, Charlie, who died at the age of six weeks after problems during birth.

Lauren and Richard have set themselves a £5,000 fundraising target, in aid of the Make-A-Wish Foundation which grants wishes to children with life-threatening illness.

They also need to raise a further £5,000 for the entry and running costs.

Lauren, who works in the leisure centre at Holiday Inn Milton Keynes Central, jumped at the opportunity to take part in the challenge after her father’s original driving partner dropped out.

Lauren, who has had her driving licence since just after her 17th birthday, will be navigating. But will she also be sharing the driving?

“That’s something we haven’t discussed yet,” she admitted.

The Honda Civic the pair will be using will have a new engine and overhaul as required by the Modball Rally rules. A garage in Colchester has agreed to undertake all the servicing and modification work on the car free of charge.

Now Lauren and Richard are seeking other sponsors.

In return, companies will have their company logo emblazoned on the car.

Lauren and Richard are also organising a series of fundraising events, including a Spring Fair which raised £628.

The next event will be a nine-band heavy metal gig at The Shed, in Leicester, on May 14.
