Daughter's run in Dad's memory

On Father's Day, Jenny Howells, from Far Bletchley, will be taking part in Child Bereavement UK's charity run in memory of her dad.

The annual Dash for Dad event will takes place on Sunday in West Wycombe Park, consisting of 1km, 2km and 5km races for children and adults.

Child Bereavement UK, which has recently opened a centre in Milton Keynes, supports families when a baby or child of any age dies, or when a child faces bereavement.

The charity also trains professionals such as teachers and nurses to help them better understand the needs of grieving families.

Jenny who has so far raised over £171 for the charity, said: “When I heard about Dash for Dad, I couldn’t wait to sign up.

“My dad passed away when I was 14 years old and I wanted to do something in 2016, the year I turn 30, to remember him and to help a good cause at the same time.

“I am taking part in the 5km race, which will be a challenge for me as I’m not very good at running and I have never done anything like this before.

“My mum will be coming to watch and cheer me on.

“Father’s Day this year will be quite emotional for me.

“I always spend Father’s Day with my mum and we always do something nice like going for lunch or afternoon tea.

“My mum has been such a great support to my brother and I, and I don’t know where we would be without her.”
