A CITY man is hosting a five star corporate charity ball in London, on Friday 15 June, to boost funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

David Read, Chief Executive of Prestige Purchasing, is hosting the night of non-stop entertainment, which will include a sumptuous banquet, at 7.30pm at The Churchill Hyatt Regency Hotel in London’s West End.

Individual tickets and tables are still available for companies looking for a special occasion to entertain their clients or staff.

Dancers, magic acts and music from David and his band are included in the action-packed line-up, and an auction will add to the fun with prizes ranging from holiday breaks in Malta and Prague to fine dining at Michelin restaurants.

A Champion of Alzheimer’s Research UK, David, 58, from North Crawley, explained his motivation for organising the charity ball and supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK:

He said: “This event is part of an ongoing project, entitled I Know that I should Know You, to raise £30,000 to pay for a complete pioneering dementia research project. It started four years ago after my mother Janet died with Alzheimer’s. I put my feelings about her long struggle with this devastating disease into song and recorded an album. Live performances followed in London in 2010 and Milton Keynes in 2011, raising over £7,000 towards my goal for Alzheimer’s Research UK.”

“This corporate charity ball is going to be a spectacular event with outstanding entertainment. Champagne and canapés will be served on arrival and a delicious banquet will follow with hand-picked wines. Then everyone can sit back and watch the stage unfold with glittering performances and dance until late if they want to. The great thing is 100% of the proceeds will go to Alzheimer’s Research UK to help defeat dementia.

“Losing someone so close opened my eyes to the dreadful lack of funding for research into new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. I decided it was time to give something back and raise much needed money and awareness. Organising this event gives me another opportunity to do just that. It’s a great way for other businesses to get involved and treat their clients and staff to a memorable night out with a very important focus. I hope as many people as possible will join us.”

Miranda Mays, Corporate & Community Fundraising Manager for Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “David is an outstanding supporter and we can’t thank him enough for his continued enthusiasm and efforts to raise much needed money for our world-class research.

“We wish him every success with this amazing corporate charity ball. Everyone who attends and every £20 raised will bring us closer to finding ways to diagnose, prevent, treat and cure Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

“There are 820,000 people across the UK living with dementia today, including nearly 5,000 people in Buckinghamshire. Dementia poses one of the greatest threats to public health now and in the future but funding for research still lags far behind other serious diseases. We rely entirely on our amazing supporters like David and his supporters to fund our pioneering research.”

The charity ball starts at 7.30pm on Friday, June 15, at The Churchill Hyatt Regency Hotel, 30 Portman Square, London W1H 7BH. Tickets are priced at £160 per person or £1,800 for a table of 12 and are available by calling 07785 284770.
