A suspected armed robber from Milton Keynes was killed during a “targeted, aggravated burglary” at a launderette.
The dead man, who was 39, was found with multiple wounds at Baylee’s Launderette in the Essex town of Grays, at 10pm on Monday.
A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. But Essex police saying self-defence could be a line of enquiry.
Officers say they are was keeping an “open mind” about the case and trying to establish the truth and facts.
The arrested man, who is also 39, is from Grays and has now been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Now a second man, who is 28, has been arrested in Hertfordshire on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Police say up to five people armed with weapons went into the launderette. It is understood the other men fled the scene after the Milton Keynes man received fatal injuries.
An Essex police spokesman said: “Self-defence is a line of inquiry in this case. However, it is important that we remain open minded.”
