While on air, the former Radio 1 DJ praised staff and customers for their efforts in helping to raise over £500,000 for CHIPS – a charity founded by the UK gaming industry which provides specialised powered wheelchairs for young people with severe mobility problems.

Broadcasting across the eight Beacon Bingo Clubs, 145 Cashino adult gaming centres and a number of seaside family entertainment centres, David spoke about his career in radio and provided ‘shout outs’ to customers and staff regarded as top CHIPS fundraisers.

“I believe organisations which dedicate time to raising money for such deserving charities, such as CHIPS, should certainly receive recognition for their efforts,” David said.

“I hope my visit has helped to raise awareness of this fantastic accomplishment by Cashino and Beacon Bingo.”

Cashino and Beacon Bingo have so far presented over 100 custom built wheelchairs to children up and down the country since they began working with the CHIPS charity in 2005.

Chris Drake, Online manager for Cashino and Beacon Bingo, said: “We’ve loved having a famous radio presenter to broadcast on our radio station, Jackpot FM, as have our staff and customers who we are very grateful to for supporting CHIPS. This was another way of saying thank you. The money is going to such a good cause which does so much for disadvantaged children.”
