Do you know somebody in MK who deserves an award for promoting diversity and equality?

Launched to mark MK’s 50th birthday, the award scheme attracted 100 entries from which judges picked winners.

Equality Council chief executive Navrita Atwal said: “We were able to give recognition to individuals who have made a difference in making MK the city it is today.”

Next Navrita is planning to launch a ‘you’ve been spotted’ award for companies or local people.

“The idea is for people to tell us of individuals or companies who have best practice and we will go and surprise them by giving them an on the spot award,” she said.

“Our aim for 2018 is to tackle bullying and harassment in the workplace. We want to join forces with employers to help this happened and we want employees to tell us if they have good practice in place to make them feel valued and empowered.”

Meanwhile the winners of Equality and Diversity awards included dedicated local foster parents David and Julie Bosdet and Ekroop Kular who cares for young asylum seekers.

Other winners were: Milton Keynes Council, Ludlow Johnson and Will Hancock from South Central Ambulance Service, MK College principal Julie Mills, Shahnaz Akhtar, Centric Community Projects Ltd, Milton Keynes Islamic Arts, Moneim Elhassan, Patsy White, teacher Shammi Rahman, Q:alliance, and The Polish Community MK.
