The force took to social networking site Twitter to post a picture of the licence under the name Homer Simpson complete with a picture of the wrld famous cartoon character with his head in his hands.

And it turned into a head-in-hands moment for the cheeky motorist who was promptly banged to rights for having no insurance by having his car seized and being reported for both offences.

The hilarious licence carries Homer’s signature and even a Springfield address - the fictional town in which the Simpsons is based - although some eagle-eyed fans of the long-running hit US TV show spotted it was actually incorrect.

A penny for the thoughts of Homer, famous for his ‘Doh!’ catchphrase when something goes wrong, on this one.
