A BUS company has launched an investigation after children had to be evacuated from their school bus before it burst into flames on the A421 on Friday.
Souls, based in Olney, was operating the service taking 11 children home from schools in Bedford when the driver was made aware by another motorist that there was a problem with the double decker coach.
A spokesman for Souls Coaches, said: “The driver was alerted by a lorry driver who was following him that there was smoke coming from the back of the vehicle.
“There were no flames in the vehicle when the children were in it and there was a substantial amount of time from the children being in the vehicle to what the pictures show.”
The spokesman added: “The driver was absolutely magnificent and acted according to his training.”
