Duo threaten man with handgun in attempted robbery

A man was threatened with what he believes to be a handgun in an attempted robbery in Netherfield on Tuesday.

The incident happened in Farthing Grove shortly after 5pm as the victim, a 29-year-old man, was in a cafe. He was approached by two men who asked him for his car keys. They threatened the victim with what he believes to have been a handgun and took the keys.

The offenders then got into the blue Audi A4 and when the victim tried to stop them he was hit on the head. The offenders then ran off on foot.

One of the men is black, 6ft, of a heavy build, in his mid thirties with a shaven head. The other man is also black, but with lighter skin, well built, 5ft 10ins and was wearing fingerless gloves.

Detective Constable Darren Street, who is investigating the incident, said: ”This was clearly a very frightening incident for the victim, but fortunately he was not injured in the attack.

“This happened in a busy area and I am sure that there must have been people about who can help us with our investigation.”
