The énergie Fitness Group, the original founders of National Fitness Day in 2011, is challenging its clubs to collectively cycle ‘around the world’ in less than 24 hours – a total of 40,075 km (24,902 miles).

Each gym must complete 573 kilometres on the cycle machines with the help of staff, members and non-members.

The club will be open to everyone for free for the day, which is hoped will encourage local people that are less active to get inspired by fitness and to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Non-members can use the facilities throughout the day without any commitment, meet the team and ask experts for advice.

They can also take part in the ‘Around the World Challenge’, which will be raising money for the MKHospital Trust, to celebrate the health service’s 70th anniversary.

“The aim is to cycle 1000km throughout the day and night and we thought what better way to help get the community involved, than to open our doors to everyone totally for free!” Says Rob Francis, owner.

The club will be running extra classes, have music, food and other treats available for everyone to enjoy.

“We want to show Milton Keynes that fitness can be fun” says Claire Banbury from énergie. “It’s basically our club ethos that we live by- it’s not chance that our strap line is “where you belong”. We want our club to be the place for everyone and anyone. From the hardened gym goer to the absolute beginner and everyone in between.”

The club runs 50 classes a week, both indoors and out, boasts top of the range touch screen interactive cardio equipment with TV and Netflix, and an excellent array of free weights and cable rig, so there really is something for everyone.

For all those who are exhausted from their efforts, or perhaps just want to catch up with friends, there will be a chill out area for children and adults.

Rob adds, “We can’t wait to celebrate National Fitness Day here at énergie Fitness and want everyone in MK to come and join us in support of the MK Hospital Trust.”

National Fitness Day encourages the nation to celebrate the fun of fitness and physical activity across the UK, helping us raise awareness of its importance in helping us lead healthier and active lifestyles.
