Met Office issues two-day weather warning in Milton Keynes as flooding fears rise

The Met Office have issued a yellow rain warning starting on Wednesday January 19 carrying on through to Thursday January 20.

Yellow warnings signal the potential for flooding that could disrupt travel, affect public transport and interrupt power supplies.

The government have activated a flood alert at the Newport Pagnell Cemetery river gauge. A report at 08:35am today, on Tuesday January 20, stated river levels are starting to fall, but remain high downstream, meaning the risk of further flooding remains possible.

Flooding is expected to impact the River Great Ouse from Newport Pagnell to Roxton.

The Milton Keynes Citizen revealed yesterday, that dozens of residents still haven't recovered from flooding over the Christmas period. The worst affected areas were Stony Stratford and Newport Pagnell. Residents living in these areas have urged the MK Council to improve the area's flood defences.

Tomorrow, Wednesday January 20, is when the heaviest rain is expected with an ease in extreme weather conditions, potentially coming as early as Thursday morning.

Storm Cristoph is expected to bring heavy rainfall across large swathes of the UK in the next couple of days, with Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield expected to be among the worst affected.
