Fierce storms cause widespread disruption in Milton Keynes

“It was awful, the storm was right above us and then all of a sudden there was a really loud thunderbolt,” said David Barrett, who captured the aftermath.

“The next minute there was smoke billowing from the roof and fire crews started arriving. I’d never seen anything like it.

“I read that the chances of that happening are something like one in three million,” he added.

“It was really bad.”

In Newport Pagnell lightning struck a bus, and in North Crawley firefighters were called to reports of three people stuck in a car in floodwater.

Firefighters were also called to deal with several incidences of flooding in Woburn Sands, Aspley Hill and Bletchley.
