When members of Dance Xchange take centre stage on Thursday night it could be for the last time.

The performance at MK Theatre will bring together more than 500 pupils and young people representing 24 schools from across Milton Keynes to celebrate dance.

This year choreographers, teachers and children have taken inspiration from ‘music from the musicals’.

The show will be the culmination of months of hard work, but could the last because of lack of funding.

DanceXchange is run by the Milton Keynes Arts Education Forum (MKAEF). The forum is based at, and funded by, Stantonbury Campus.

But now the future of MKAEF is uncertain. Chairman Trevor Harris said: “The performance on Thursday will be the fulfilment of an enormous amount of hard work.

“We know the energy, commitment and love of dance will make this an event to remember.

“We know this is an experience that will never be forgotten by all the children taking part and we are certain it will be memorable for the audience too.

“This is the seventh cycle of the DanceXchange in the history of the MKAEF, but it may well be the last as the future of the forum is uncertain.

“The forum is currently supported by Stantonbury Campus but needs additional funding if it is to continue beyond the end of this financial year.

“We need a minimum of around £8,000 funding to keep us going for a year.”

The forum has been a fixture of the Arts and Education world in Milton Keynes for the past 14 years.

It has provided opportunites for thousands of children and young people to access quality arts and cultural events and provided continuing professional development for the city’s arts teachers.
