Firefighters set to march in protest over colleague’s sacking

Firefighters will be protesting about one of their colleagues losing his job with a public march on Tuesday.

The dispute over Fire Brigades Union (FBU) member Ricky Matthews began last month; Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire and Rescue Service claim Mr Matthews chose to take “illegal strike action” and was therefore dismissed for failing to attend work during a four-day strike, but the FBU say their strike action was lawful

The march and rally will go through Aylesbury town centre.

Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, said: “Ricky’s sacking is an attack on every firefighter and their right to organise in the workplace to secure better conditions and a better public service.

“Firefighters across the UK stand united with their bullied and victimised colleague and call for Ricky Matthews to be reinstated.”
