Floosies make it home safely
A trio of intrepid fundraisers '“ dressed as 1940s Land Girls and nicknamed Florrie's Floosies '“ were taken to a mystery location, given £1, and told to find their way home . . . all in aid of The Road Victims Trust.
They included Pauline Mitchelmore, PA to Milton Keynes MP Mark Lancaster, who said: “I always love a challenge but I clearly underestimated how tough this would be.
“We were dumped in Brighton with no phones and just £1 in our pockets. But that said, asking for help during the 100 mile return journey showed how incredibly generous and kind people can be.
“We blagged trains, buses, black cabs and even managed to squeeze into a mini we’d hijacked for the final leg home.
“Would I do it again? I’ve done it! But I’d highly recommend anyone else to take up the challenge for such an incredibly worthwhile charity.”
The trio were led by Pauline’s close friend Jo Wareham – head of The Little Branding Company in Luton.
She’s passionate about The Road Victims Trust after experiencing firsthand the vital support offered to families affected by fatal car crashes and those who witness them.
She said: “Taking part in The Great Escape 2016 was an exciting and crazy challenge . . . we relied on our charm, wit, lateral thinking and a bit of cheeky cunning.”
Third member of the team was Deborah Saini who, as head of leading law firm Pictons’ personal injury department, is often involved with road accident victims.
She said: “I had absolutely no idea how we would get home but we called on friendly drivers to take pity on us in our Land Girls costumes.
“We had to be very inventive and of course ensure we kept ourselves safe and secure.
“But it was enormous fun, as well as raising awareness and funds for a truly important cause.”
Jo paid tribute to her fellow Floosies after the event: “Pauline’s former career in fundraising proved very useful. She and Debs were fabulous and we had a lot of fun completing this challenge.”
It took them 12 hours and they’re well on their way to achieving their £2,000 target.
