THERE has never been a better time to become a foster carer in Milton Keynes.
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson and his team have joined local foster carers and Milton Keynes Council to back a campaign to recruit more carers in the city.
The campaign coincides with National Foster Care Fortnight which runs from May 16–29.
Under the strapline ‘Fostering: time to care’, this year’s campaign aims to highlight the urgent need for more foster carers and calls on everyone to get behind fostering and support children in care.
The council’s Fostering Service has arranged two informal drop-in evenings for anyone interested in finding out more.
Local foster carers Clare and David O’Sullivan have been fostering for the last eight years.
They teamed up with the Dons to launch Foster Care Fortnight in MK.
Clare said: “We are really proud to be foster carers.
“To know that we are providing support and care to a child who needs it most is an amazing feeling and has enriched our lives and theirs as a result.
“Since becoming carers, between us we have been able to make a difference to over 30 children’s lives.
“If you have ever thought about foster care, even for a minute, we would urge you to take the next step and find out more by going along to a drop in event or calling the council.”
Karl Robinson added: “Foster carers are ordinary people who undertake an extraordinary activity in that they look after other people’s children at times of great stress and trauma and offer them comfort and security in a safe environment.
“My daughter is lucky to have a supportive family around her and but it is good to know that there are foster families in Milton Keynes who are able to provide a caring home to children whose parents are unable to.”
The next event takes place on Tuesday May 24 from 6-7pm at the council’s Saxon Court offices at 502 Avebury Boulevard, Central Milton Keynes. Anyone is welcome to go along for a cup of coffee and a chat about fostering.
Advance booking is not required. An information display will also be in the Central Library during the fortnight.
If you are not able to go along to one of the drop in sessions you can call the Fostering Team on 01908 253206 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org
