Former MK Dons footballer escapes jail after biting off a man's EAR
A former Dons footballer bit off a man's ear after being rejected by a woman, a court heard.
Allan Smart, 42, lunged at Ricky Power during a drunken night out, sank his teeth into his ear and ripped off the lobe.
He than spat it out on the ground and walked away, the court was told.
Smart had tried to kiss Ricky’s wife Lisa but flew into a rage when she pushed him away.
Smart, who was given a two year suspended prison sentence for the assault, played for MK Dons during 2004/5.
Before the signed the Dons contract he had been dismissed by Oldham Athletic after being arrested for assaulting a police officer.
After leaving the Dons, Smart played for the Premier League, becoming a striker for Watford.
He is also well known as a BBC radio pundit.
Sentencing him, Judge Tim Mousley QC described the assault as “vicious and gruesome” and said Smart had a “problem with drink”.
The BBC gave Smart a character reference commending his hard work.
After the case, Lisa Power said slammed the sentence, saying: “It’s disgusting that he’s got away with it...He’s obviously a violent man and he’s not right in the head.
“Who goes around biting people’s ears off?”
Smart pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grevious bodily harm.
He was ordered to pay £1,500 compensation to Ricky Power and also to complete 300 hours of unpaid community work.
