Labour stalwart Brian White told councillors just before the annual budget-setting session that he is quitting for “health reasons.”

But he added the cryptic comment: “All political careers end in failure. Mine ends tonight.”

The 58-year-old then declared: “The future of Milton Keynes looks bright – providing we can get the right leadership.”

Brian began his political career when he was elected to the council in 1987. Since then he has served a total of 19 years.

He completed two terms as an MP between 1997 to 2005 before losing his seat to Tory Mark Lancaster.

During the MPs expenses scandal Brian achieved minor fame for submitting one of the LOWEST claims of all.

A former mayor of Milton Keynes, he has always been known as a people’s councillor, often putting his constituents in his Stantonbury ward before politics.

Brian, who appears on Secklow Sounds Grumpy Old Men radio programme, has pledged to remain on the council until the May elections.

He then plans to move to Spain with his wife Leena.

He told the Citizen: “I will be leaving Milton Keynes as soon as I have sold my house.

“I will take my pension, buy a villa with a swimming pool and write a book –probably an autobiography.”

Brian runs an online publishing company called Digital city MK. He plans to keep the business in Milton Keynes but run it from Spain. He will remain a member of the Labour Party and has promised to help fight for a Labour victory in the May elections.
