PEOPLE interested in running, and even those who aren’t, are being invited to sign up to parkrun.

The weekly event gives people of all ages and abilities the chance to take part in 5km timed runs around the Willen Lake area.

The parkrun was started in 2004 with just 13 runners at Bushy Park in Middlesex. Since then it has grown to having 51 events across the UK with a further four in Denmark, which equates to around 7,000 runners.

This time last year the concept came to Milton Keynes and now they regularly see more than 100 people taking part.

Race director and personal trainer, Gareth Snelson, said: “It’s so easy for people to get involved. People sign up once on the website and then with that unique barcode they can turn up and run at any event around the country.

“When they finish the race their unique code is scanned and their results are monitored on a weekly basis through the website – on the same day.”

Volunteers are also on hand to marshal the event and they need around nine of them per week to make sure the event is a success
