Workers at the struggling Railcare depot in Wolverton finally had some good news to get their teeth stuck into on Tuesday, thanks to a free lunch at their local pub.
More than 100 employees at the historic rail works were made redundant earlier this month, around 40 per cent of the workforce, and those remaining still face an uncertain future with the business in administration and no buyer yet confirmed.
After hearing about the redundancies, and delays to remaining workers being paid, Streetfood Cafe boss Robin Edmunds decided to provide workers with a free lunchtime meal at the Craufurd Arms pub on Stratford Road all this week to help raise morale.
He said: “I have lived in Wolverton for 28 years and I love the place. So I was really sad to hear about what was happening at the rail works and wanted to do something positive for a change.
“I want to show support and solidarity with the workers. The works is part of Wolverton heritage.”
