'˜Get in, Go Far' says Milton Keynes MP

The Government has said it is committed to achieving three million high quality apprenticeship starts by 2020. This will increase opportunity for all young people and is aimed at helping to abolish long-term youth unemployment.

The current reforms of apprenticeships are putting employers at the heart of developing new apprenticeship standards, with over 1,500 employers involved from nuclear to fashion, digital, law, banking and transport.

“I am a huge advocate of apprenticeships. For too long too many young people have been forcefully steered towards traditional university degrees or work without not much in-between,” the Milton Keynes South MP said.

“Things are now starting to change and when I visit businesses and schools around Milton Keynes it is clear apprenticeships are now taken seriously and are actively being encouraged,” he added.

“There has never been a better time to employ an apprentice or to start an apprenticeship.”

The Get in Go Far campaign aims to showcase the amazing opportunities that apprenticeships offer, to show young people, parents, teachers and employers the benefits of apprenticeships and to raise perceptions of them as a credible route into work.
