Grants for war memories in Milton Keynes

The First World War has been commemorated afresh in Milton Keynes, after the MK Community Foundation allocated over £2,400 of grants to two community projects.

Stantonbury Parish Council received £1,500 for a commemorative celebration in Bancroft Park, which will take place on August 30.

Bradwell Silver Band received £900 for the Music For Heroes event that takes place on September 6, allowing the band to perform at a larger venue at Stantonbury Campus and reach more local people.

Julia Upton, chief executive of the MK Community Foundation, said: “Whilst Milton Keynes is a young city, we have great history with the historic towns of Bletchley, Newport Pagnell, Wolverton and Olney. We support a vast array of projects and are delighted to commemorate this key international event with the community.

“In addition to these grants MK Community Foundation has supported Bletchley Park with over £15,000 in grants in recent years, to ensure that the local codebreakers legacy of the Second World War continues.”

The Community Foundation accepts funding applications from not-for-profit organisations, working for the benefit of the community of Milton Keynes. Local community groups, voluntary sector organisations and registered charities can download applications and further information from
