Olympic long jump champion Greg Rutherford’s gold post boxes will soon be repainted to keep the spirit of his London 2012 success alive.
The post boxes, in Lloyds Court, will be repainted with an undercoat, giving them the impression of being paler, before a second coat will give them a longer lasting colour.
A plaque will also be added to the area to commemorate Greg’s gold-winning jump on Super Saturday in last year’s London Olympics.
The 26-year-old is one of 111 Olympic and Paralympic athletes whose achievements were recognised in this way by Royal Mail.
In connection with the repainting of the postboxes across the country, MK Dons mascots Donny and Mooie will be travelling to all of them to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and SHINE.
The journey will coincide with the impending football season which kicks-off this weekend as Dons travel to Shrewsbury Town for their first League One game.
The journey was inspired by city woman Paula Grant who visited all of the post boxes herself last year in an attempt to keep the Olympic spirit alive.
