Growing numbers of elderly is strain on NHS

Statistics released from the Office of National Statistics have shown that since 2005, the population aged 
65+ has increased by 9,321.

The thousands of extra people aged 65 and over, paired with the funding could put a strain on the NHS and private care facilities.

Councillor Nigel Long, cabinet member for health, wellbeing and community services, said: “The challenge facing our city is so stark that we need all parties and our MPs to work together to lobby government for a fair care deal for Milton Keynes.”

Richard Blyth, managing director of Saga Care, said: “We’ve seen an increased demand for care in Milton Keynes, an ageing population is a reality of our time and finding a care solution is a challenge.”

The number of teenagers in the area has fallen by 2.7 per cent in the last 10 years. The only age group whose population number has decreased in the last decade.
