A village GP surgery would be able to re-open “tomorrow” according to two Milton Keynes councillors, who have demanded urgent talks with regional health bosses.

Councillors Andy Maric and Ric Brackenbury have written to NHS England after another practice offered to re-open Willen Village Surgery as a GP-led surgery.

The duo say that Newport Pagnell Medical Centre is prepared to invest in the site, and that it is needed to serve the local population including a large number of elderly residents and those with limited mobility.

Councillor Maric said: “Newport Pagnell are prepared to step in at a day’s notice and take on the site. They can go in with GPs, with nurses, and build the surgery back up.

“There were over 5,000 patients with the previous incumbent, and Newport Pagnell believe it is still viable..”

Willen Village Surgery closed in April last year with patients being given just one day’s notice.

Dominic Cox, regional NHS director of commissioning, said the proposal was being considered, but added: “NHS England is not in a position to simply agree to the opening of a new branch surgery without considering the wider implications.”
