Heartless crooks rob scout camp used by thousands of youngsters

Scouting chiefs have fulfilled their motto of being prepared by doing their best to track down the small-minded crooks who robbed a campsite used by thousands of youngsters.

Thieves crept into the Quarries Scout Camp at Cosgrove during Monday night and stole tools worth thousands of pounds.

They then had the cheek to return on Tuesday morning and drive off in the site’s sit-on lawn mower.

But the Quarries’ CCTV system captured their ever move on camera. And this week the scouts joined forced with police to release top quality pictures of the culprits.

They are hoping readers will recognise them and help police bring them to justice.

“Whoever did this must have realised this is a place run by a charity and used by scouts, cubs, beavers, guides and brownies from all over Milton Keynes,” said scout leader’s wife Jemma English.

“They took a generator that we need for camps and jamborees, and also a drill borer that’s used for scout activities.”

Though the tools and mower are insured, the scouting movement must find hundreds of pounds to pay for in insurance excess fees, said Jemma.

She has launched a crowdfunding page in a bid to raise money towards this excess.
