A literacy charity is hoping to help children in the new city improve their reading ability – but this will only be possible with the help of suitable volunteers.
Beanstalk is a national charity that recruits, vets, trains and supports volunteers to work in primary schools with children who have fallen behind with their reading.
Each Beanstalk reading helper works with three children, seeing each child for two 30-minute sessions a week during term times. Together, they read, play and talk.
The support offered by Beanstalk volunteers transforms learning and enjoyment of reading for many children.
