Helping others is the theme for academy

Helping others is a favourite theme at The Hazeley Academy and students have been inspired to get involved with plenty of extra activities this term.

The student council organised for the whole Hazeley community to take part in Operation Christmas Child to make December 25 extra special for young people all over the world. Students, staff, parents and friends of Hazeley collected together over 140 shoeboxes to send off to the initiative.

You can watch the Academy’s ‘Final Count’ video for the appeal on its YouTube channel and, as students are keen to reach 200 boxes next year, perhaps start thinking about how you could help them on their way with any donations.

This term has also seen Hazeley’s enrichment club, Character Club, produce its very own Mannequin Challenge. Taking their cue from the videos that have been appearing all over social media, the 35 student members and 22 teachers worked with faculty team support assistant Claire Griffiths over two weeks to create their masterpiece.

Titled ‘The Hazeley Academy Mannequin Challenge: Know Your Rights’, the film incorporates different Articles from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child - and also includes a special appearance from Harvey the Hazeley Husky.

Claire said: “The aim is to help our students learn about their rights in an engaging and more dynamic way, which will hopefully encourage them to think about what their rights mean and also how they can help others.”
