A lack of bus drivers has prompted a series of delayed or cancelled services in the last few months, the Citizen can reveal.
Arriva has launched an urgent recruitment to combat the problem, while drivers from other depots are transported over to “fill the gap”.
Bosses say they were “caught out” by the staff shortage, which has caused issues in and around the city for the past couple of months.
But general manager Kieran Lawson says it is hoped ‘normal service’ will resume as soon as possible.
He said: “We have had a couple of issues after being caught out with drivers leaving because of the upturn of the economy.
“Most of our staff come from a trade, so a few people have left because they have been offered to go back to work in their industry.
“I can’t say how many drivers have left, but it is a little more than predicted.”
New bus drivers are expected to start as soon as they have their DVLA provisional entitlement form returned. They will then attend a training school.
But Arriva could not confirm when the new drivers are expected to start work.
