Huge donation for Girl Scout lodge in Milton Keynes
Bucks Freemasons have donated £1,500 to Heron's Lodge.
Heron’s Lodge is a Guide Centre situated near local parks and lakes on Bradwell Road, and is a wonderful venue which helps bring the Guides closer to nature.
The venue is used by Rainbows, Brownies, Girl Scouts as well as Boy Scouts and hosts many other local events and meetings.
St Martin’s Lodge of Freemasons, which meets in the Bletchley Masonic Centre, has had a long association with the centre.
Each year the Lodge uses the grounds for their annual MK Young Carers’ Fun Day.
This great event hosts over 150 young carers, and their friends and family, to a summer day of fun and games, along with a barbecue, bouncy castle and animal petting zoo.
The centre has been in need of a facelift and update in certain areas. O
One of the major items in need of renovation was the shower block, which needed an overhaul.
Nick Hills a member of St Martin’s Lodge, approached the Bucks Masonic Centenary Fund (BMCF) to see if it could help.
The committee of the BMCF met recently and were delighted to send a cheque for £1,500 to cover the cost of eight new shower units, and their installation.
Nick said: “We at St Martin’s Lodge have a wonderful rapport with the Guide Centre and are delighted that the BMCF was able to help out with this most important part of the refurbishment.
“I was delighted to present the cheque to Wendy Thirlwell and Betty Mills at the centre.
“We are already planning the young carers’ day in 2017and look forward to many great days at the centre.”
Robert Wharton, deputy head of Freemasonry in Buckinghamshire and Chairman of the BMCF, said: “We at the BMCF are delighted to help Heron’s Lodge Guide Centre and wish them all success in their future work and endeavours.
“It is also one of the many and varied ways in which Bucks Freemasons’ core values of friendship, integrity andcharity are used to assist all the people in our community, both old and young.”
