'˜I watched nurse steal £15 from sick patient's purse' Milton Keynes Hospital accused of hushing up case as police investigate

Milton Keynes Hospital has been accused of hushing up a case of a healthcare assistant allegedly caught red-handed stealing cash from a sick patient's purse.

Police are investigating the incident, which happened last Friday night.

A patient told the Citizen she watched as the crafty healthcare assistant deliberately knocked a handbag from a chair next to another patient’s bedside.

“The contents of the bag spilled out, so the nurse bent down to put them back in. I saw her take a purse, open it and take out £15 in cash – a £5 note and a £10 note,” she said.

“I was right opposite, and my curtains were open so I could see everything.”

The victim confirmed the money had gone and reported the theft to the ‘nurse’ in charge the same night.

“The nurse called the matron and the matron called security. As far as we know the ‘nurse’ was told to leave the hospital.”

The victim dialled 101 to call police and was given a crime reference number.

But no police officers or hospital officials have since contacted her, and no effort has been made to repay the £15.The following day, Saturday, the witness was discussing the disturbing incident with her visitors.

“One the nurses came over and said: ‘You guys had better shut up about this you will be moved to another ward. I couldn’t believe my ears.

“A nurse stealing cash from a patient is the lowest of the low. The hospital really has no right to hush this up.” The hospital confirmed the worker is now suspended.
