The clean-up - organised by the Inlands Waterways Association - spanned Fenny Stratford to Old Wolverton, and also offered boaters moored on the stretch a one-off chance to put rubbish out for collection.

“I am astonished at the scale of the operation - and the professionalism of the volunteers,” said Vicky Martin, CRT Waterway Manager South East.

One CRT volunter even bagged a small Christmas tree to take home and plant in his garden!

The event was supported by Wyvern Shipping Co Ltd and supported by the Canal & Rover Trust.
