Young people in Milton Keynes are being invited to stretch their imaginations as far as they can go and come up with the next big thing in technology by entering poster and video competitions.
Top entries will be showcased at the MKEX Technology Exhibition at stadium:mk on June 22, with the winners receiving an iPad Mini.
Peter Barnett, of MKEX, said: “We want young people to wow us with their imaginative ideas. They are exceptionally good at seeing things in a new way and coming up with great ideas.
“We are encouraging school students across the city to think of things that they would love to see in the future. How will we be travelling around? What will mobile phones be able to do? How will robots be able to help humans.”
There are two competitions, a poster contest for younger children and a video competition for older children.
Younger children, aged up to 11, in schools across MK are being invited to draw posters showing their inventions. They will be judged at the schools, with the winning entries put on display for the hundreds of visitors to MKEX in June.
Children aged 11 and over are being asked to create one minute videos using any type of video camera, smart phone or software package. They need to describe their ideas and how the inventions would improve the lives of them and their friends. Videos should be uploaded to Vimeo and a link sent to the judges at firstname.lastname@example.org
The top 20 videos will be showcased on the MKEX website and shown on screen during the exhibition. Visitors to the exhibition will be judging the entries, with the winner receiving an iPad Mini.
Peter added: “We want to engage the children and young people of Milton Keynes in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) agenda from a very young age.
“MKEX as a whole will be telling the story of technology in Milton Keynes, running from young people, through to entrepreneurs and people looking for funding, to the Biztech BrightSparc Awards.”
