An open invitation for the Duchess of Cambridge to tour Bletchley has been issued to Buckingham Palace.

Members of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council were delighted when they heard Kate Middleton was popping into town to visit Bletchley Park on June 18.

But their excitement turned to disappointment when they learned the strictly private engagement will only be witnessed by a handful of Park officials and local dignitaries.

They wanted to give hundreds more people a chance to glimpse the popular Royal – and give traders a much-need boost.

Town clerk Lisa Courtney said: “We are formally inviting Kate Middleton to visit Bletchley town centre. Her Royal Highness would love our thriving shops and cafes. It would be fantastic for her to snap up local bargains.”

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said: “I’m afraid Her Royal Highness’s programme is unlikely to be able to be changed at this stage.”

He added: “The Duchess is very much looking forward to her visiting Bletchley Park.”
