Douglas McCall has been re-elected by his fellow Lib Dem members as leader of group for the forthcoming year.

Councillor McCall, of the Newport Pagnall South ward, took over as leader last May when Sam Crooks lost his seat in the Middleton ward.

At the group’s AGM on Monday, Mr McCall was elected leader, with Councillor Cec Tallack as deputy leader.

On being re-elected as Group Leader, Douglas McCall said: “I am delighted to have been re-elected to lead the Lib Dem Group for the second year running. I will continue to fight the Tories’ attack on the poor and vulnerable in Milton Keynes. In these austere times tax payers’ money has to be used wisely and particularly to help the socially disadvantaged.

“Last year the Tories did not even take all of the Government money available, preferring to put up local taxes. Surprisingly Labour did not join the Lib Dems in opposing this. The Lib Dems will continue to fight for MK residents.”

Last week, Labour elected Peter Marland as their new leader.
