Lisa Courtney is set to trek the Great Wall of China to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Lisa, clerk at Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council, and friend Jane Forder will be taking on the nine day challenge between May 16 and 24.
They both aim to raise £3,000, but want others to join them on the adventure.
Lisa said: “Registering for the walk started off as a bit of a joke with Jane as we laughed at the prospect of signing up, but then both of us actually started to take it seriously. For me it’s like my ‘Shirley Valentine’ moment - I woke up one morning to discover I was 40 something and hadn’t really done anything out of the ordinary or over exciting in my life.
“Marie Curie is a fabulous charity which I wish had been around when my granddad was ill - he had cancer and died in 1986.
“It would no doubt have been easier for my granddad to cope with the cancer and for the family to have coped with his death if we had been able to access Marie Curie’s fantastic service.”
