Pre-schoolers at Woodlands Day Nursery had their lunch served by a Peer of the Realm who then judged a sock puppet competition.

Arriving at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ day nursery in Downs Barn in time for lunch, Lord Teverson was greeted by three year old Oscar Mitchell with the polite request to pass the vegetables.

A lively conversation over lunch was followed by a prize-giving ceremony for children and parent teams who crafted Sock Puppets for a competition attracting over 30 entries from every age group.

Lord Teverson, said: “It is wonderful to see such happy and confident children. From babies to pre-schoolers, it is clear they are all enjoying these fantastic facilities and opportunities.”

Describing the standard of competition entry as very high and sock puppets as imaginative, Lord Teverson presented prizes to winners Anya Jones, four, and nine-month-old Mason Newberry. Other winners were three-year-old Olivia Beecher, and two-year-old Sophia Wieremiej.

Employee owner and Manager of Woodlands, Alyson Hefferon, said the Liberal Democrat Peer was a ‘big hit’ with staff and children.

She said: “His interactions with the children were amazing. There was ‘no pomp or ceremony’ as he got down to their level and really engaged with them.”
