Lottery luck and a splash of good fortune for Milton Keynes' only outdoor swimming pool

Residents who saved their town's swimming pool from closure can splash out on improvements after receiving a £38,000 lottery grant.

The investment will make Woburn Lido one of the best outdoor pools in the south east of England.

Built more than 100 years ago, the lido was almost closed down in 2014.

Members of the Woburn community saved the day by forming a committee to keep it open to the public.

But they soon discovered the pool had “critical”
structural problems needing
a huge injection of cash to repair

This week the committee heard its National Lottery funding bid to carry out the work had been successful.

Chairman Chris Smith has thanked the lido’s customers and volunteers for their help and support.

MP Nadine Dorries is also delighted – and vowed to take a dip in the lido soon.

She said: “The village has protected a tremendous asset to be enjoyed by future generations.”
